Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman says he is learning a great deal under Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone, even after being deployed out of position as a makeshift centre forward in the early rounds of the season.
Simeone had publicly apologised to Lookman for the positional switch during matches against Malaga and Villarreal, explaining the shift was forced by the unavailability of Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth. Rather than showing frustration, Lookman said working under the Argentine coach helps him grow and adapt to the team’s broader style of play.
“Three Games, Seven Points”
Speaking to ESPN, Lookman said playing under Simeone had been great, and that learning from him and his staff was important for his continued improvement and for helping the team. He said Atletico’s start to the season, three games and seven points, had been positive, and that the priority now was to keep improving as a team while continuing to win.
Back On The Scoresheet
Lookman bounced back into form with a goal in Atletico’s 3-1 win over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. Simeone has praised the forward’s work ethic and desire to improve his overall game, alongside his natural goalscoring instincts.
