A 15 man delegation from CAF headquarters arrives in Nigeria on Friday for the second and final inspection of facilities that will host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards. As reported by FootballInNigeria.com.ng, the team lands in Lagos on Friday afternoon.

The General Assembly is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The CAF Awards will follow on Monday, December 7, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.

The delegation is led by CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, Dr Christian Emeruwa. A six-man NFF team led by Dr Ademola Olajire will accompany the visitors in both cities.

What The Team Will Check

In Lagos, the inspectors will assess the Wole Soyinka Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites and Murtala Muhammed International Airport. They will also meet officials of the Lagos State Government.

In Abuja, they will inspect the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The team will also pay courtesy visits to the chairman and director general of the National Sports Commission.

Building On The First Visit

The first inspection took place from July 31 to August 4. CAF officials met executives of the institutions and agencies involved in hosting the events in Lagos and Abuja.

Those talks ended with an agreement on continuous communication, aimed at making sure both events run smoothly and look forward rather than back.

A Big Moment For Nigerian Football

Nigeria last hosted the CAF Awards in January 2017, when Riyad Mahrez and Asisat Oshoala were crowned the best male and female players. Lagos will stage the ceremony for the fourth time, after 2008, 2013 and 2014.

The General Assembly is expected to bring together the presidents and general secretaries of CAF’s 54 member associations, alongside other international delegates.

Is Nigeria ready? The two inspections suggest the groundwork is serious, and CAF’s decision to send a 15-man team shows how much weight it places on the details. The final verdict will come after Friday’s visit.

For Nigerian football, hosting both events in a single season is a rare chance to show off its facilities to the continent’s football leaders.
