Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide has vowed that Nigeria’s women’s team will bounce back following a disappointing 2026 WAFCON campaign that also cost the country a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Complete Sports reports.
Writing on her official X account, Babajide described the outcome as heartbreaking, saying it hurt to miss out on World Cup qualification but that she remained grateful for the chance to represent Nigeria at another WAFCON, even though the tournament didn’t go the way the squad had hoped. She said the team was down for now but would recover in the way Nigerians know best, and that the focus was already shifting toward reflection and preparation for Olympic qualifiers. She also thanked supporters who backed the team both in the stadium and from home throughout the tournament.
A Campaign To Forget
The Super Falcons endured one of their most difficult WAFCON campaigns, losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter finals to miss out on automatic World Cup qualification as a semi finalist. A second chance arrived in the intercontinental play-off against South Africa, but Nigeria lost 2-1, confirming that the team will miss the World Cup for the first time since making its tournament debut in China in 1991.
