Rangers Plan Temporary Return to Awka Stadium for 2025–26 Season

Rangers International of Enugu are exploring a temporary move back to Awka City Stadium for the upcoming NPFL season, citing infrastructural demands and ongoing renovations at their iconic Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The club has expressed its intention to utilise Awka as a provisional home ground, with the League Management Company (LMC) set to inspect the venue and grant approval pending compliance with league regulations. The NPFL has recently mandated several clubs to upgrade facilities like LED floodlights and backup power before hosting privileges are granted.

Awka City Stadium, constructed in late 2021 and boasting a hybrid pitch and modern amenities, has previously undergone successful inspections by the LMC and hosted Federation Cup matches. Rangers have intermittently played there since 2022, when their Enugu home was deemed unfit for NPFL fixtures.

With the 2025–26 season set to kick off in August and the LMC actively evaluating club facilities, Rangers’ decision may give them a compliant and adequately equipped venue to begin the campaign before returning to Enugu once upgrades are complete.

However, this decision must remain temporary. Enugu is Rangers’ heartbeat, both symbolically and economically. We believe club management should fast-track upgrades at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, ensuring minimal time away from their true home. A strong relationship with LMC and transparent updates to fans will be essential during this period.

Rangers are sending a clear message compliance and competitiveness can coexist.
