Akwa United’s Aloysius Named in Flying Eagles Squad for WAFU B U-20 Championship

Akwa United goalkeeper Uchechukwu Aloysius has been named in Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad for the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, with head coach Abdu Maikaba including him among three goalkeepers selected for the tournament, alongside Clinton Lawani and Abubakar Rufai.
The competition runs from July 26 to August 9, 2026, in Cote d’Ivoire, and will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the next Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Aloysius earned his call up after an impressive campaign with Akwa United in the Nigeria National League, starting around 90 percent of the club’s league matches and standing out as one of the team’s most consistent performers. His invitation comes despite Akwa United narrowly missing out on promotion to the NPFL, falling short on the final day of the season against Sporting Lagos.
Maikaba has named a 35 man provisional squad as preparations for the championship continue, with the group set to be trimmed further before the tournament begins.
