Enugu Rangers have opted to stage their home matches in the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, rather than the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

According to a club source, the Flying Antelopes assessed several CAF-approved venues before settling on the home ground of reigning NPFL champions Remo Stars, with the commercial terms proving decisive. The source said hiring the Godswill Akpabio Stadium would have been considerably more expensive, and that Remo Stars presented a much better deal.

Beyond cost, Rangers were also wary of generating the kind of atmosphere continental football demands. Club officials reportedly worried that fan turnout in Uyo could be low, depriving the team of the vocal home support that often matters in CAF competitions, and that Rangers wanted “an energetic atmosphere, not a sparsely populated stadium.”

Accessibility also played a role, with Ikenne seen as more convenient for Rangers’ sizeable fan base in Lagos and the South-West, many of whom can travel there by road rather than making the longer, costlier trip to Uyo. Remo Stars’ management reportedly assured Rangers they would mobilise their own supporters and the local football community to help create a lively matchday atmosphere.

The move to Ikenne also allows Rangers to continue awaiting the completion of ongoing renovation work at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, popularly known as The Cathedral, before returning to their traditional home ground.
