Emmanuel Fernandez has said he is not considering a move away from Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, despite continued transfer speculation surrounding the Nigerian defender.

Fernandez joined Ibrox from English League One club Peterborough United for £3.5 million last summer and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Rangers squad, going on to be voted the club’s Player of the Season and earning a place in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season. He has since been linked with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, among other clubs.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Fernandez said his attention remains fully on Rangers, insisting his answer to questions about his future would be no different now than it was a year ago. He pointed to the four years remaining on his contract, saying he wants to enjoy his time at the club and continue winning, and that recognition from outside the club doesn’t change his focus on the work still ahead of him.

He also spoke positively about working under new Rangers manager Derek McInnes, saying the early sessions together had gone well despite missing some early training time. He described McInnes as someone trying to build togetherness within the squad, and said the two had already had good conversations about specific areas of his game to improve, particularly around defending the box and reading danger. Fernandez added that pre-season now gives him the time to work on those points after limited off season opportunity due to international commitments.
