Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor have opened talks with Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem over a potential summer move, according to Turkish outlet Spor Depor.
Awaziem is expected to leave French club Nantes following the Canaries’ relegation from Ligue 1 at the end of last season. Konyaspor are said to be eager to strengthen their defence with the experienced centre back, who has previously enjoyed two separate spells in Turkish football.
Awaziem first featured in the Turkish Super Lig during the second half of the 2018/19 season, joining Caykur Rizespor on loan and making 16 league appearances. He returned to Turkey in the 2021/22 season on loan at Alanyaspor, where he scored once in 22 league outings and established himself as a regular starter.
The 29 year old, who can also play at right back and in defensive midfield, has attracted interest from several clubs this summer, with Konyaspor now pushing to secure his signature. Konyaspor finished ninth in the Turkish Super Lig last season and also reached the Turkish Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to Trabzonspor.
