Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is settling into a new role at AC Milan under head coach Ruben Amorim, who has deployed him as a wing back this pre-season.
Chukwueze impressed in Milan’s pre-season friendly win over Manchester United in Wroclaw, registering a goal and two assists as the Rossoneri claimed a 4-2 victory, his first real audition in the unfamiliar position.
“He Simply Gave Me Faith”
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chukwueze said Amorim’s trust in him was the main reason he was determined to seize the opportunity, describing his return to Milan after a loan spell as a once in a lifetime chance he isn’t willing to waste. He acknowledged the wing-back role is new territory, a position he has never played before in his career, but said he was approaching it with belief in both himself and his coach.
Asked how satisfied he was with Milan’s style of play under Amorim, Chukwueze said he still has plenty to learn in the new role and is working to improve at every training session, crediting both the coaching staff and Amorim himself for correcting him whenever he makes a mistake.
A Fresh Chapter After A Loan Spell
Chukwueze’s Wroclaw performance offers an early sign that the positional switch could pay off, giving him a genuine route into Amorim’s plans as Milan’s competitive season approaches. The 27 year old will be hoping to build on the display and establish himself as a regular starter for the Rossoneri this season.
