A Natural Fit For A Centre-Back
Bassey said he was grateful for the trust Arbeloa, who joined Fulham from Real Madrid over the summer, has placed in him, calling it an unbelievable privilege to lead the side. He pointed out that his position as a centre back naturally lends itself to organising and communicating with teammates on the pitch, making the leadership role feel like a fairly natural extension of his job.
Bassey Urges Patience Under New Management
Fulham are still searching for their first win of the campaign, but Bassey said the squad is already seeing encouraging signs as they adjust to Arbeloa’s methods. He described the transition as an ongoing process, noting that the players have only been working with the new coach for a couple of months and acknowledging it will take time to fully adapt to an approach that differs from what they were used to before.
Contract Talks Progressing
Away from the captaincy, Bassey is reportedly closing in on a new long-term deal with Fulham amid growing interest from several top European clubs. The 26 year old joined the Cottagers in July 2023 on a four year contract and has since made 105 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing an assist, with Fulham keen to tie down one of their key defenders for the years ahead.
