Rivers United’s players received a $2,000 cash reward from club administrator Christopher Green following Saturday’s hard-fought 1-1 draw away to FC San Pedro in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in Ivory Coast.
Green, a former NFF Executive Committee member and past chairman of the federation’s Technical Committee, said the gesture reflected the management’s appreciation for the players’ effort and commitment. He described the result as coming from the team’s determination to succeed, adding that such effort deserved recognition.
A Battling Point On The Road
Issouf Dosso put the hosts ahead after the break, but Iyowuna Douglas restored parity for the Pride of Rivers soon after, securing a valuable point for Finidi George’s side ahead of the return leg. The second leg takes place on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Second Reward Of The Season
This is not the first time Green has dipped into his pocket for the players this season. He had earlier handed the squad a N2 million reward after their opening-day 2-0 win over Plateau United in the 2026/27 NPFL campaign.
