Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has voiced his disapproval of Akor Adams’ decision to leave Sevilla for newly promoted Serie A side Venezia, even as he wished the striker well.

Adams completed a permanent transfer from Sevilla to Venezia in a deal believed to be worth around €17 million, with performance related bonuses potentially pushing the total value close to €23.5 million.

Udeze admitted he wasn’t happy with the move, but was quick to note it was ultimately Adams’ own decision and career to shape, saying, “I can only wish him all the best.”

Adams himself explained his thinking behind the switch, saying he was drawn by what he called an extraordinary project at Venezia and wanted to help write a new chapter in the club’s history. He praised the passion and energy of Venezia’s supporters, saying he had watched match footage and been struck by their consistent backing, and said he believes the club deserves its place in Serie A given the loyalty of its fanbase.

Venezia, originally founded as Venezia Foot Ball Club in 1907, have spent much of their history in Italy’s top two divisions. Their biggest achievement to date came in the 1940-41 season, when they won the Coppa Italia, following it up with their highest ever Serie A finish of third place the following season.
