Nigeria’s Flamingos are champions of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup after a 4-0 win over Togo in the final in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire. The result capped a perfect campaign of five wins from five games.
Chidi’s Penalties Lead The Way In The Final
Captain Harmony Chidi was the star of the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot, in the 15th and 35th minutes. Substitute Oluebube Umejiaku added a third in the 67th minute and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring late on.
A Perfect Run To The Title
The Flamingos opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Niger, with Chidi, Awawu Bashiru, Ohunene Sunday, Mary Dunstan and Ayomide Rotimi all on the scoresheet. They then beat Ghana 4-2 despite playing the last half hour a player short after Elizabeth Adesuyi was sent off, with Adegbuyi, Chidi, Dunstan and Kaosarat Akanji scoring.
Coach Hakeem Busari’s side followed that with a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso, through second-half goals from Dunstan and Adegbuyi, and a 2-0 win over hosts Cote d’Ivoire, with Adegbuyi scoring early and Pattra Oparanmegwa adding a late second.
Boost Before The World Cup
The title is a timely boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where Nigeria have been drawn in Group B with Poland, North Korea and Puerto Rico.
