NWFL champions Edo Queens have arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, ahead of the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
The 2024 WAFU-B champions touched down in the Burkina Faso capital on Saturday evening aboard Air Cote d’Ivoire before proceeding to their hotel, where they settled ahead of the competition. The club wasted little time getting to work, holding their first training session under interim head coach Kennedy Boboye on Saturday morning.
A Stand-In Coach For A Big Assignment
Boboye, who also serves as head coach of NPFL side Bendel Insurance, has been handed responsibility for guiding Edo Queens through the qualifiers in the absence of Moses Aduku, who is currently with Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s team as the Falconets prepare for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Group B Opener Against Niger
Edo Queens have been drawn in Group B alongside Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas, Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic. Group A comprises hosts USFAS of Burkina Faso, Dynamique FC of Benin Republic and ASOK Da-Kara Feminines of Togo.
The Nigerian champions begin their campaign on Monday, August 24, against AS Garde Nationale at Stade 4 Aout, with kickoff set for 6pm. As reigning NWFL champions and former WAFU-B winners, Edo Queens will draw on their continental experience as they chase another route into the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
