The NWFL Champions, Edo Queens, will start their journey to qualify for the 4th edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League at the WAFU B Qualifiers in Abidjan this August. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 10 to 23, 2024.
Teams from seven countries in the WAFU B Zone, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger Republic, Nigeria, and Togo, will compete for the single spot available in the finals. Edo Queens will represent Nigeria in these qualifiers, following their recent triumph in the Nigerian Premiership Super Six.
Historically, the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers finals often feature intense matches between Nigerian and Ghanaian teams. In 2021, Rivers Angels of Nigeria reached the final but was defeated by Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies. Bayelsa Queens claimed the 2022 edition by beating Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa 3-0. However, in 2023, Ampem Darkoa defeated Nigeria’s Delta Queens with a 1-0 victory.
The upcoming qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire will mark the third time the country has hosted the event, having previously hosted in 2021 and 2022. Benin City, Nigeria, hosted the 2023 edition.
