Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika featured for the full 90 minutes as Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a heavy 4-1 home defeat to Augsburg on Sunday. It was Onyedika’s second league appearance since his summer move to Frankfurt from Club Brugge, while Nigerian forward Uchenna Ogundu was again an unused substitute for the visitors.
Frankfurt Lead Then Fall Apart
Frankfurt made the perfect start, going ahead in the sixth minute through a Jonathan Burkardt header, and dominated for long spells of the first half without adding to their lead despite missing several chances.
The game turned dramatically after the break. Arijon Ibrahimović headed Augsburg level in the 46th minute, and Robin Fellhauer put the visitors ahead a minute later after Frankfurt goalkeeper Noah Atubolu failed to hold a routine effort. Substitute Alexis Claude-Maurice added a third in the 65th minute, before Fabian Rieder rounded things off with a fine free-kick in the 89th to complete the rout.
Contrasting Starts To The Season
The result gives Augsburg their second win of the campaign, moving them to six points and top of the early Bundesliga table. Frankfurt, who drew 3-3 with Union Berlin on the opening weekend, remain on just one point and sit in the lower half of the standings.
