Kelechi Iheanacho looks set to end his brief spell as a free agent, with reports indicating the striker is close to putting pen to paper on a new two year contract with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Iheanacho enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at Parkhead after joining on a free transfer last year, initially on a one year deal that included a club option to extend by a further 12 months, an option Celtic chose not to trigger, leaving him a free agent at the end of June. Despite injuries interrupting parts of his season, the 29 year old scored crucial goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian, and Motherwell as Celtic completed a domestic double.

Turkish and Qatari clubs had shown interest in the striker during his period of uncertainty, but reports now suggest Iheanacho is poised to commit his future to Celtic instead.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill confirmed the club is actively pursuing a new deal, telling Celtic Way he wants to get something done with the striker. O’Neill added that resolving the situation quickly would allow Iheanacho to start pre-season on time, something he missed out on last year.
