The Nigeria National League (NNL) has moved the opening fixture of the 2026/27 season by 24 hours. Heartland of Owerri will now host Crown FC of Ogbomoso in the Conference A curtain-raiser on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The match, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 31, will be played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, with kickoff at 4pm. Fans following lower-league football can read Bet9ja’s YOHAIG enrolment code.

NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana said the change was needed because of important state events scheduled for the same day and venue. He said the league wants the host state to be properly represented at the opener, to ensure a strong turnout and an atmosphere that suits the occasion.

Alanana apologised to both clubs and their supporters, urging them to understand the circumstances. He stressed that the adjustment is in the best interest of a successful start to the new season.

The rest of the Conference A, B, C and D fixtures are unaffected, with the new season starting across the country on the weekend of November 7 and 8. Readers can see Bet9ja referral code in short.

Heartland, nicknamed the Naze Millionaires, and Crown FC, the Ajilete Warriors, will usher in a campaign that features 36 clubs.

The ground also has history. The Dan Anyiam Stadium hosted the first leg of the 2009 CAF Champions League final between Heartland and TP Mazembe on November 1, 2009, exactly 17 years before the new date.

A one-day delay isn’t a big deal, but the NNL will want a full house. The stadium holds about 10,000 people, and the opener is a chance to start the season with a strong atmosphere.
