Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes has played down reports that Victor Boniface wants to leave the club when the transfer window reopens in January. Rolfes insisted that the Nigerian striker will get his chance if he keeps working and improves his fitness.
The speculation began on October 22, when Sky Germany reported that Boniface’s representatives had told Leverkusen he wants out. No concrete negotiations with other clubs are known. Fans following Nigerian players in Germany can read Bet9ja promotion code quick lesson.
Rolfes responded on October 24. He said the reports do not change Boniface’s situation, adding that he is “not worried.” He urged the striker to stay fit and keep improving, and said his opportunity will come.
He said Boniface has been in a much better mood, mentally too, and sees more perspectives again.
Rolfes acknowledged that pressing and defensive work were not Boniface’s strongest attributes during his previous spell of consistent goalscoring, but said he has other qualities. Leverkusen want to raise his fitness level as much as possible so that he can show them. New Bet9ja users can claim Bet9ja’s YOHAIG opening perk.
Boniface has played just five minutes this season, with one assist in one league appearance. He spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen.
Rolfes also recently addressed why Jonas Hofmann was picked over Boniface as Martin Terrier’s replacement in Leverkusen’s Europa League squad after the Frenchman’s injury.
Boniface was a key part of Leverkusen’s unbeaten domestic double in 2023/24, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists in 23 league games, but injuries have set him back since then.
He was linked with a reported €70 million move to Al Nassr in January 2025 and with AC Milan in August 2025, but neither deal happened. Readers curious about betting terms can read what a Bet9ja promotion code is, in short.
Leverkusen play at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday, October 25, at 3:30pm Nigerian time. The question for Boniface is whether he can force his way into Leverkusen’s plans before January, and if not, the window may bring a loan or a move.
