Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Peter Ambrose on a permanent deal from Aberdeen.
Ambrose joins the Swiss side after two years on Aberdeen’s books, having arrived at the Scottish club from Hungarian outfit Ujpest in 2024. Playing time proved hard to come by during his time in Scotland, he managed just one goal in 15 league appearances for the Dons, and spent part of last season out on loan at Hungarian side Diosgyori VTK as he searched for more regular football.
Aberdeen Bid Ambrose Farewell
Aberdeen head coach Stephen Robinson explained the thinking behind the striker’s departure, telling the club’s official website that regular first-team football had been difficult for Ambrose to find for some time, and that this represented the right opportunity for him to move on and play more. Robinson said the pair had agreed during the summer to find a permanent solution that worked for both player and club, and wished Ambrose well as he joins a Neuchatel Xamax side that has started the new season strongly.
A Proven Scorer In Hungary
Ambrose’s most productive spell to date came at Ujpest, where he finished the 2023/24 season as the club’s top scorer with 10 goals in 27 appearances, form that first attracted interest from Aberdeen and reportedly saw the Scottish club beat off competition from clubs in Belgium and Russia to sign him. He began his career at Optimum Academy in Abuja before moving to Turkish side Balikesirspor’s youth setup in 2021, making his professional debut against Samsunspor in January 2022.
