Nigeria Falconets striker Janet Akekoromowei has completed a move to Portuguese champions Benfica, signing a two-year contract with an option for a further two years.
The 18 year old expressed her satisfaction at joining the six time Portuguese champions, telling Benfica’s official website she was happy and considered it a privilege to be part of a club with the ambition to keep winning trophies.
She spoke about wanting to fully embrace life at the club, saying she is ready to give her best and help her new teammates achieve their goals for the 2026/27 season.
Akekoromowei, who joins from Nigerian club Bayelsa Queens, also credited fellow Nigerian international Christy Ucheibe with helping inspire the move, recalling how she had watched Ucheibe win titles at Benfica and had been given positive first hand accounts of the club directly from her.
