Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has signed with Major League Soccer MLS club FC Cincinnati, departing from Portuguese club Boavista. The 27 year old has agreed to a one year contract with an option for an additional year, according to an announcement by FC Cincinnati. The transfer fee was a modest 500,000 Euros.
Awaziem expressed his joy at reuniting with former Flying Eagles teammate Obinna Nwobodo at the MLS club, both having grown up together in Enugu. Awaziem recounted Nwobodo’s persistent invitations to join him at FC Cincinnati, finally culminating in their reunion. Awaziem has earned 34 international caps with the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
