Simon’s message
Moses Simon says the new faces in the Super Eagles squad showed real character in the 3-3 friendly draw with Russia on Tuesday. The match took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, and Nigeria had trailed 3-1. FootballInNigeria.com.ng reports that Simon posted his reaction on X.
Simon described the game as a tough atmosphere and a demanding test. He said the talent, courage and composure of the young players give reasons to believe in a brighter future for the team. “The future is looking good for our country,” he wrote.

The new faces who impressed
Eric Chelle gave opportunities to several fringe players against Valery Karpin’s Russia. Benfica youngster Peter Edokpolor and Umar Abubakar were among those who stood out.
Edokpolor scored Nigeria’s second goal with a sublime finish, while Abubakar provided the assist for Akor Adams’ stoppage-time equaliser.

A milestone for Simon
The game was also Simon’s 102nd appearance for the Super Eagles, according to Complete Sports. That makes him one of the senior figures in the current group.
Before the match, Simon said the Super Eagles were in Russia to win. We reports that he was replaced with a head injury, which let Adams wear the captain’s armband.
Chelle will hope Simon is fit for November. Super Eagles fans can read the Bet9ja promotion code walkthrough before then.
What next?
Nigeria next face Tanzania in Uyo on November 13 and in Dar es Salaam on November 17 in Group L. Chelle has said some of the new players could be in the senior squad in the next window.
Can the newcomers repeat their showing in a competitive game? Simon clearly thinks the future is in good hands.
