Coventry City goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has set his sights on winning the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles, having made his Nigeria debut against Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the Unity Cup in May.
Building International Experience
The 24 year old was also part of the squad for friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, and could earn his first competitive cap when Nigeria faces Madagascar’s Barea in a 2027 AFCON qualifier on Friday.
Big Ambitions For The Future
Speaking to the media in Uyo on Wednesday, the former Arsenal academy goalkeeper said, “I want to win the AFCON and compete at the World Cup,” describing both as among his biggest ambitions as a footballer.
Taking A Patient Approach
Okonkwo also spoke about wanting to make a positive impact with the national team while learning from his more experienced colleagues. He said it’s still early days for him, that he wants to soak up as much knowledge as possible from teammates, and that the previous camp had been a valuable experience. He added that he intends to keep improving step by step, in the hope of one day contributing meaningfully to the Super Eagles.
