Arthur Okonkwo at Charlton Athletic

Sky Bet Championship side Charlton Athletic have confirmed that goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has received a call up to the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Chasing A Competitive Debut

Okonkwo, who joined Charlton on loan from Wrexham over the summer, will be hoping to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles in the upcoming double-header. The 24 year old already has two international caps to his name, having made his Nigeria debut during the team’s Unity Cup triumph at The Valley in May.

Competition For The Number One Jersey

The Arsenal academy product is expected to compete with Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye for a starting role in Eric Chelle’s squad. He has made four appearances for Charlton so far this season.

Qualifiers On The Horizon

Nigeria open their qualifying campaign at home to Madagascar on Friday, September 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
