Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season after her NWSL club, Washington Spirit, confirmed she will need surgery this week.
From Six Weeks Out To Season-Ending
Abiodun had initially been expected to be sidelined for around two months, but the club has now moved her from the 45 day injury list to the season-ending injury list. Washington Spirit said the 22 year old ends her campaign having made nine appearances in all, four of them starts, totalling 320 minutes on the pitch.
A Key Piece For Nigeria
Abiodun was an important part of the Super Falcons squad at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and the injury is also expected to rule her out of Nigeria’s upcoming Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros.
The Super Falcons face Comoros in both legs of their second-round qualifier at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, as they begin their pursuit of a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
