Ebube Duru, a 2023 Super Eagles invitee, made his Danish Superliga debut for Sønderjyske Fodbold as they secured a 2-1 victory over Vejle BK at Sydbank Park. Duru, who signed a three year contract with Sønderjyske on September 3, 2024, following a successful trial, played 72 minutes before being substituted.
Duru had previously featured in a Danish Cup match, helping his team to a 7-0 win against Solröd FC shortly after joining the club. In the match against Vejle, Sønderjyske’s Lirim Qamili opened the scoring in the 27th minute, but Vejle equalized through Yeni N’Gbakoto with just 16 minutes remaining. Sønderjyske ultimately secured the win when Marc Dal Hende, who replaced Duru, scored the decisive goal in stoppage time.
Duru, who was a member of the Rivers United team that won the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2022, has previously been called up for the Super Eagles but has yet to make his senior debut. He was part of the squad for a friendly against Portugal in 2022 and was also on the bench for matches against Algeria and Sierra Leone.
