Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi has named a 24-man squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The Taifa Stars are already through to the finals as co-hosts, but they still have qualifying games to play.
The squad is dominated by home-based players from the Tanzania Premier League. League champions Yanga FC and Azam FC lead the way with five players each, while Kagera Sugar and Singida Black Stars have one player apiece.
Gamondi also called up three foreign-based players. They are Novatus Miroshi of Turkish Super Lig side Göztepe, Cyprian Kachewele of Ukraine’s Kryvbas and Bernard Kamungo of FC Dallas in the United States.
The Taifa Stars will be looking to improve their standing in the group after a slow start. Fans following the Super Eagles can also check this Bet9ja promotion guide for AFCON fans before the games.
A Slow Start for Tanzania
Tanzania opened their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau. They then drew 1-1 with Madagascar in their second match.
Their place at the 2027 finals is secure, so the pressure is lower. Still, Gamondi wants his team to compete and stay sharp ahead of the tournament.
Group L also includes Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Only the top-ranked non-host side in the group will qualify, which makes every point important for Nigeria.
Can Tanzania spoil Nigeria’s plans? They have the motivation, and they know the Super Eagles well from last year’s AFCON. Readers who follow the national team can also claim YOHAIG offer for Super Eagles followers before the games.
The Fixtures
Nigeria host the first game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13. It is a matchday three encounter.
The two teams meet again four days later in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, November 17. Tanzania will host the return game.
Gamondi knows Nigeria well. He led Tanzania at the 2025 AFCON, where they lost 2-1 to the Super Eagles in their opening game but still reached the Round of 16 for the first time.
What can Nigeria expect? A well-organised team with plenty of home-based players who fight for every ball. Anyone curious about promotions can read the Bet9ja promo code of the day before the Uyo game.
Nigeria’s own squad will be closely watched. Both games matter in a group where only one non-host side advances.
The Taifa Stars have shown they can compete. The Super Eagles will need to treat both games as must-win.
