Plateau United coach Gbenga Ogunbote has admitted his side had a bad day after a 3-2 home defeat to Sporting Lagos in week nine of the Euromatch NPFL on Sunday. It was the Jos-based club’s first home loss of the season.
Plateau had won all four of their previous home games, so this one stung. The defeat leaves them fourth on 14 points, while Sporting Lagos climbed to third on 15. Fans following the title race can read the Bet9ja promo code explained before the next round.
Sporting Lagos struck first through Aliyu Baba in the 10th minute. Victor Dawa then took over for the hosts, scoring twice before the break to wipe out that opener and give Plateau a 2-1 lead at half time.
Victor Samuel levelled for Sporting Lagos in the 53rd minute. Then, with 10 minutes left, Plateau were reduced to 10 men.
Sporting Lagos made the extra man count. Aondona Adeede scored the winner in the 82nd minute to complete the comeback.
Ogunbote ruled out complacency, insisting his players gave their very best. But he accepted that the team let a lead slip and things fell apart. “We had a bad day today,” he said.
He was generous toward the winners. Ogunbote said Sporting Lagos were at their best and deserved credit for how they played. Fans keen to back the NPFL’s form sides can start with Bet9ja’s YOHAIG code.
He called the defeat a wake up call. Ogunbote said even a draw would have felt like a loss to Plateau, but it’s good that the lesson came this early in the season.
That’s the right attitude. Plateau still have 14 points and a strong home record, and one bad day shouldn’t derail them. The bigger worry is going down to 10 men with 10 minutes left, because it handed Sporting Lagos the initiative.
Plateau travel to Katsina United next Sunday, October 25. Sporting Lagos meet Enugu Rangers the day before.
