Ikorodu City goalkeeper Michael Atata has put the club’s historic 2-0 win over defending champions Rangers down to concentration, determination and hard work. The Oga Boys had never beaten Rangers in the league before Sunday’s result at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
Adeoye’s Free-Kick Sets The Tone
Super Eagles midfielder Aderemi Adeoye gave the hosts the perfect start, curling a free-kick into the bottom corner after just six minutes. Ikechukwu Junior sealed the win in the second half with another well taken free kick.
Atata On Staying Switched On
Speaking to the club’s media, Atata said the afternoon was, in his words, “all about concentration” from the first whistle to the last. He explained that the team knew the match would be demanding both mentally and physically, and that the players simply had to give their all and put in the right effort to come away with the win.
Sporting Lagos Derby Next
Ikorodu City now turn their attention to a local derby against Sporting Lagos. Atata stressed that the victory over Rangers, significant as it was, does not change the approach, and said the team will take each game as it comes and give its full effort in every match.
