NPFL club Ikorodu City are celebrating after two of their players, goalkeeper Michael Atata and midfielder Aderemi Adeoye, earned call ups to the Super Eagles squad.
Chelle Names His Squads
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle unveiled his squads on Thursday for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar on September 25 and Guinea-Bissau on September 29, along with the international friendly against Russia on October 6. Atata and Adeoye were both included in the 24-man squad named for the Russia friendly, with Atata listed among three goalkeepers alongside Stanley Nwabali and Samuel James, and Adeoye part of an eight man midfield group.
Reacting to the news on X, Ikorodu City congratulated the pair and described the call ups as a proud moment for the club, urging both players to carry themselves with pride and make the club proud on international duty.
The Full AFCON Qualifiers Squad
For the two AFCON qualifying matches, Chelle called up goalkeepers Arthur Okonkwo, Maduka Okoye and Nwabali. His defensive options include Bruno Onyemaechi, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, while the midfield features Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Raphael Onyedika. Up front, Chelle named Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Tolu Arokodare.
