Rangers International have progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after edging Beninese side Sobemap FC 5-4 on penalties following a tense second leg in Lome.
A Tight Tie Ends Level
The Nigerian champions were held to a 1-1 draw by their hosts at the Stade de Kegue on Friday, leaving the aggregate score locked at 2-2. Rangers had taken the lead in the 22nd minute through an own goal, but Sobemap hit back to level the contest with 25 minutes left to play, forcing the tie into extra time and, ultimately, penalties.
Rangers Hold Their Nerve From The Spot
With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, the match went straight to a shootout, where Rangers kept their composure to win 5-4 and book their place in the next round.
