Nigerian striker Akor Adams opened his Serie A account on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Venezia slipping to a 4-2 home defeat against Fiorentina, a result that leaves his new club bottom of the table.
Adams Breaks The Deadlock
Fiorentina, who like Venezia had lost each of their opening three league games, dominated the early exchanges and created several chances through Beto, Franco Mastantuono, Alex Jimenez and Cher Ndour. Against the run of play, however, it was Venezia’s record signing who struck first, collecting the ball on the right side of the box in the 22nd minute and finishing first time into the far corner for his maiden Serie A goal.
Mastantuono Hat-Trick Turns The Game
Fiorentina responded almost immediately, with Mastantuono scoring twice in quick succession in the 29th and 30th minutes to turn the game around. Mateo Pellegrino added a third for the visitors in the 66th minute before Mastantuono completed his hat trick six minutes from time. Antoine Hainaut grabbed a late consolation for Venezia in the 87th minute, but the damage had already been done.
A Difficult Start In Venice
The defeat leaves Venezia bottom of Serie A with zero points after four matches. Adams arrived at the club over the summer from Sevilla in a club-record deal reported to be worth around €17 million plus bonuses, on a four year contract. He had already found the net twice in the Coppa Italia, including a brace in a 3-2 win over Modena in August, and will hope Friday’s goal marks a turning point as Venezia look to kick start their season.
