Manager Nathan Jones had made clear before the QPR game that he wanted to see a stronger defensive showing following the Stoke defeat, and Okonkwo said the team delivered exactly that. The goalkeeper played his part with two important saves to preserve the clean sheet, and felt the side had been on the wrong end of a few decisions in the first half but held firm regardless.

Speaking to the club’s media afterward, Okonkwo said, “I thought the boys dug in well, especially after last week, and we defended really well.” He added that while the Stoke defeat also involved some contentious calls, there was no excuse for aspects of the team’s defending that day, and Wednesday’s performance was a clear step in the right direction.

Okonkwo said the clean sheet against a strong QPR side was a positive to build on, even if the team would have preferred all three points, and the group is already looking ahead to their next Championship assignment against Portsmouth.
