Nigeriaโs Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu has confirmed he will rotate his squad for their final group match against Algeria in the WAFCON 2024. Having secured a 1โ0 win over Botswana to reach the quarter-finals, Madugu said the aim now is to rest key players and give others a chance on the pitch.
โWe came here with 21 players โฆ we try to manage our players very well, keep them fresh, avoid injuries and try to give everybody a chance to see what they can also do,โ he told a press conference in Casablanca. Madugu added, โObviously thereโll be changes in the team because we need to give others an opportunity to have a feel of the competitionโ. With top spot in Group B just one point away, Nigeria can afford to rotate confidently while maintaining their unbeaten run.
The coach also noted that midfielder Deborah Abiodun is suspended after picking up two yellow cards, but he remains focused โWhichever opponent comes our way, weโll not be caught unawares because we know who we are expecting โฆ we have a plan for thatโ. Their final group match against Algeria is scheduled for Sunday in Casablanca.

We welcome Maduguโs bold rotation strategy. The Womenโs Africa Cup of Nations demands squad depth and adaptability both of which Nigeria clearly possesses. By deliberately resting key starters and testing others, the coach is safeguarding fitness and reducing burnout risk.
His approach shifts the spotlight from complacency to collective responsibility. Young players stepping in gain vital exposure, nurturing a foundation for future tournaments. At the same time, those rotated out return rejuvenated, ready for the rigours of knockout football.
Dealing with suspensions, like Abiodunโs, tests a coachโs mettle. Yet Madugu remains unfazed. He emphasises preparation, clarity and tactical readiness for any opponent, echoing a professionalism that underpins Nigeriaโs title aspirations.
We support this rotation. Itโs pragmatic, equitable and forward-thinking. By telling every squad member โyou matterโ, Madugu cements unity and purpose. The move may decide who starts, but it also crystallises who Nigeria are confident, cohesive and prepared. That mindset could prove decisive as the tournament progresses.
