Valencia Coach Confirms Full Trust in Sadiq’s Playing Time

Valencia manager Carlos Corberán has clarified that there are no club-imposed limitations regarding the playing time of Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq. On loan from Real Sociedad, Sadiq had raised eyebrows after being left on the bench for much of the recent 1–1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

The 27 year old made his impact felt regardless, coming on in the 66th minute and scoring the equaliser just 14 minutes from full time. Despite speculation, Corberán dismissed suggestions that Valencia had been instructed to limit Sadiq’s usage due to his loan status.

“At no point has this club imposed any restrictions on any player. In fact, in the Real Sociedad match, it was an injury that prevented the player from playing,” the coach said via the club’s official platform. “Imagine the level of commitment to achieving this goal. I’ve never had any restrictions, quite the opposite.”

Sadiq has now netted five goals in just 10 league outings for Valencia, underlining his growing influence at the Mestalla.

When a player like Umar Sadiq makes headlines, it’s usually because he has done something that forces everyone to sit up and take notice. And rightly so. His late equaliser against Rayo Vallecano was yet another reminder of the raw quality he brings to the pitch. But the bigger story here lies beyond the goal—it’s about trust, commitment, and transparency.

In today’s football world, where politics and contracts often get in the way of performance, Corberán’s comments are refreshing. Too often, loanees are sidelined due to behind the scenes limitations. So it’s vital that fans hear directly from the coach that Sadiq’s minutes are dictated solely by tactical needs and form not paperwork.

We see in Sadiq a striker who is still evolving, still proving himself. His record of five goals in ten games is solid, but it’s the manner in which he impacts games decisively, under pressure—that’s truly remarkable. It would be a disservice to both Valencia and Nigerian football to underutilise a player with this level of talent.

We must continue to demand open environments where players thrive based on merit. Whether he’s scoring from the bench or leading the line from kick-off, Sadiq’s influence is undeniable. Let’s back the coaches who back their players and celebrate the athletes who make every minute count.
