Wazbak Int’l Sports Academy coach Adeniyi Wasiu Adekola says his team is fully prepared for what many are already calling the toughest group in this year’s Nigeria Women Football League Championship, despite the tricky draw his side has been handed.

The Lagos based club will compete in Group C alongside Rangers Women FC, Fortress Ladies FC, and Unification FC, a group with only one ticket available for the promotion playoffs and, by common reckoning, the strongest collection of teams in the competition.

Speaking to Sports247 ahead of the tournament in Calabar, Adekola acknowledged the size of the task but insisted his side has been working hard and will treat every point as vital given the stakes involved.

He was equally candid about the makeup of his squad, describing it as one of the youngest in the league. Rather than viewing that as a weakness, Adekola framed it as part of a longer-term development plan, saying there is no added pressure on the players since the club’s broader goal is preparing them for bigger stages later in their careers, with promotion serving as a bonus that would open further doors for them.

He also sent a message of unity to the club’s supporters and stakeholders, calling for togetherness on and off the pitch as the team pushes through the group stage, and said a positive outcome would be a landmark moment both for the club and for women’s football in Lagos State more broadly, describing it as a natural extension of the Centre of Excellence’s sporting legacy.

The 2026 NWFL Championship kicks off on July 11 in Calabar, with Group C and D fixtures taking place at the St. Patrick’s College Stadium as clubs battle for a place in the NWFL Premiership.
