Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin have withdrawn from the Super Falcons’ 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Comoros. The setback hits the squad right as camp opens.
Oshoala asked to be excused from the fixture, and Belarus-based former Falconets forward Blessing Okpe has replaced her. Plumptre is out with a ligament injury.
Demehin will also miss the tie, along with forward Flourish Sabastine, as both continue their resident permit processes. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Favour Nkwocha have been released from camp to join the Flamingos ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Camp Gets Under Way
The Falcons began preparations on Monday evening with 14 players in the training session. Goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, defenders Farida Abdulwahab and Valentina Uroko, and forwards Shakirat Moshood and Sandra John were among those on the pitch.
Eleven more players are expected to arrive. They include defender Michelle Alozie, midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini, forward Gift Monday, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade.

A Depleted Falcons Test
Nigeria are heavy favourites against a side ranked far below them, so the absences should not decide the tie. Still, losing a striker of Oshoala’s standing and a defender like Plumptre forces the coaching staff to lean on younger players.
Is that a problem, or an opportunity? For players like Okpe and the squad’s young defenders, a competitive Olympic qualifier is exactly the stage to prove they belong.
