Falconets head coach Moses Aduku says his players are determined to leave a real mark at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, rather than simply making up the numbers. Nigeria have featured at every edition of the tournament, and Aduku wants this year’s group to push further than past squads have managed.
The Falconets have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and tournament debutants New Caledonia, and will open their campaign against Spain at the Arena Sosnowiec on Monday.
Aduku Sets Out The Mission
Aduku said the squad feels well prepared and is treating the competition seriously, noting that although Nigeria has qualified for the tournament since its inception, this time the team wants to make a real difference. He added that while every team in the group commands respect, his side intends to take things one game at a time with the aim of advancing from the group stage.
He also pointed to what is at stake individually for the players, explaining that a strong showing could open the door to senior national team recognition, something he said the squad is taking very seriously.
Encouraging Form Heading Into The Tournament
Nigeria go into the World Cup on the back of promising warm-up results, having beaten hosts Poland 1-0 before playing out a 1-1 draw with South Korea in their final preparation match.
Aduku said a good run at the tournament would mean a great deal back home, believing Nigerians would take real pride in the team’s performance, and said the players are fully aware of that and working hard to deliver.
