Ademola Lookman spent part of his summer break rubbing shoulders with Nigerian music royalty, and this time it was Burna Boy joining the guest list.
The Super Eagles forward was pictured with the Grammy-winning artist backstage at Afronation in Portugal, where Burna Boy had just wrapped a set. Video from the meeting shows the two trading a warm handshake and a laugh, with Burna Boy reportedly needling Lookman about Nigeria’s absence from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
It is the second high-profile music crossover for Lookman this offseason. He was spotted with Wizkid last month, and has also been photographed enjoying time in Brazil during the break, part of a stretch of travel most Super Eagles players have used to unwind before preseason begins.
Burna Boy’s football ties go deeper than a courtside cameo this year. He linked up with Shakira on “Dai Dai,” one of the anthems for the 2026 World Cup, and performed the song at the tournament’s opening ceremony. He is also lined up to perform at the closing ceremony later this month.
For Lookman, the holiday will be short. He is due back at Atletico Madrid within the week to begin preseason work, his first full preseason since arriving from Atalanta in a deal worth around 40 million euros in February. The club will lean on him early, with several of Atletico’s first-team attackers still away on extended World Cup breaks.
Diego Simeone’s side have preseason friendlies against Manchester United and Manchester City lined up for early August, both good early tests for Lookman as he settles into a bigger creative role. Atletico then open their La Liga campaign at home to newly promoted Malaga on August 16.
