Nigerian defensive midfielder Omoniyi Olajide is closing in on a fresh opportunity in Poland after a season that has put him on the radar of at least one bigger club in the country.
Olajide spent the past campaign with Proch Pionki, where his consistency in midfield caught the attention of Polish football media in recent weeks. The 22 year old featured in 13 of the club’s 15 league matches, racking up 649 minutes of action, and chipped in with two goals despite operating primarily as a holding midfielder.
That form has now translated into concrete interest. Olajide says he has been invited by Ursus Warszawa coach Michal Kaleta for a four-day trial period, a chance to prove himself ahead of a potential move this summer.
“I have been invited by the coach of Ursus FC, Michal Kaleta. He wants to watch me for four days and see what the future holds for us together. I’m praying for something good to come out of it,” Olajide said.
A product of Idowu Boys FC in Lagos, Olajide has steadily built a reputation in Poland’s lower leagues for his work rate and discipline, qualities that underpinned Proch Pionki’s respectable finish in their division this season. A move to Ursus, should it materialise, would represent a clear step up for the young Nigerian as he looks to push his career forward in Europe.
