Rivers United have moved up to second place in the NPFL table after a commanding 5-0 win over Kun Khalifat FC on home turf, continuing their strong recovery following their exit from the CAF Champions League.
A Cagey First Half, Then A Rout
Salman Abubakar opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a fine strike from outside the box, but the Pride of Rivers had to settle for a slender 1-0 lead at half time despite creating further chances. The floodgates opened after the break as Finidi George’s side stepped up their attacking play significantly.
Four Second Half Goals Seal The Rout
Chijioke Mbaoma doubled the lead in the 49th minute, assisted by Alex Oyowah, before Abubakar completed his brace nine minutes later to make it 3-0. Wasiu Falolu added a fourth in the 62nd minute, teed up by Mbaoma, and substitute Ekene Awazie rounded off the scoring six minutes from time.
A Big Climb Up The Table
The emphatic victory lifts Rivers United to second place with 10 points from four matches, while Kun Khalifat FC remain 19th with just two points from five games.
