Katsina United head coach Mohammed Azeez Audu has told his players to sharpen their ball use and game management before Sunday’s NPFL clash with Kano Pillars. As reported by FootballInNigeria.com.ng, the message came at Tuesday’s training session, days after a 4-2 win over Enyimba.

The Matchday 8 win at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium put Katsina United on 12 points from eight games, sixth in the table at the time. Audu doesn’t want the result to breed comfort.

He stressed that his team must defend well when they lose the ball and attack well when they have it. “Don’t have energy in just one direction of play,” he told the squad.

How Katsina Beat Enyimba

Katsina United made a flying start, going ahead in the sixth minute when Emeka Onyema’s back pass slipped through goalkeeper Dede Dare’s legs. Mubarak Sani made it 2-0 six minutes later, and that was the score at half-time.

Luis Dadong made it 3-0 just before the hour, but Enyimba hit back through Chidera Michael in the 67th minute and Charles Egbe in the 75th. Youngster Umar Rabiu restored the two-goal cushion with a fine counter-attacking goal in the 80th minute.

A Test Against Kano Pillars

Kano Pillars arrive after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Plateau United on the same matchday. Audu will know a wounded opponent can be dangerous.

Is that a hint of caution from the coach? Probably. A manager whose side has just scored four doesn’t usually demand better game management unless he sees gaps, and Enyimba’s late two goal burst gave him some.

The Season Picture

Katsina United finished ninth last season with 52 points. They will want a stronger campaign this time, and consistency from week to week is the obvious target.

The fixture is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, with kick-off listed for 16:00. It’s one of nine NPFL games on Sunday’s card.

For now, Audu’s message is simple. Kano on Sunday will show whether his players have listened.
