AC Monza have intensified efforts to sign Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro from Inter Milan, with the two Serie A clubs continuing talks over a permanent transfer.

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia via transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations are progressing positively, though Inter are believed to be pushing for a mandatory buy back clause that would allow them to bring Akinsanmiro back to San Siro in the future should his development continue at its current pace.

The talks come just weeks after Akinsanmiro’s expected permanent move to Pisa unexpectedly collapsed. He spent the entire 2025-26 Serie A season on loan at the club, making 24 league appearances and impressing despite Pisa’s eventual relegation. Pisa had activated their €7.5 million option to sign him permanently, but the transfer fell apart at the final stage due to a technical issue during the exchange of documents.

Rather than treating the collapsed deal as a setback, Inter have used the situation to their advantage, now valuing Akinsanmiro at around €10 million given his strong form last season. Monza are not the only club circling, with Bundesliga sides and fellow Serie A club Bologna also showing interest.

Monza believe Akinsanmiro could strengthen their midfield as they prepare for a return to Serie A following an outstanding Serie B campaign, in which they finished third with 76 points, built on a strong defence that conceded just 32 goals across the season. Akinsanmiro joined Inter from Nigerian club Remo Stars in January 2023 and extended his contract with the club until June 2029 earlier this year.
