The chairman of the Nigerian Professional Football League NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, revealed their ambition for players in the domestic league to earn a minimum monthly salary of one million Naira. Last season, the stipulated minimum monthly wage was 150,000 Naira, which has been increased to 250,000 Naira for the current season.
Gbenga Elegbeleye discussed this goal in an interview on Eagle7fm sports radio. The increase in wages is part of a broader effort to enhance the financial well being of players. Last season, league champions Enyimba received 100 million Naira in prize money. This season’s champions, Enugu Rangers, will be awarded 150 million Naira as prize money.
