John Otomewo is on the verge of a move to French football, with Hapoel Jerusalem reportedly reaching an agreement with Ligue 2 club Stade Reims over the sale of the Nigerian midfielder.
According to Israeli outlet Sport5, Hapoel Jerusalem will receive €1.6 million from Stade Reims for the 19 year old, a fee that would surpass the club’s previous transfer record, the €1.5 million sale of Cedric Don to Maccabi Haifa, making it the biggest deal in Hapoel Jerusalem’s history.
Otomewo is expected to travel to Israel on Saturday before continuing on to France to complete his medical and finalise the switch.
His rise has been rapid. He signed for Hapoel Jerusalem’s youth team last summer after being discovered at a talent tournament in Nigeria, and continued training regularly with the senior squad while representing the youth side. An injury crisis in the first team opened the door for him, and he seized the opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter, going on to make 19 league appearances for the club.
