Former Arsenal academy graduate James Olayinka has joined League of Ireland Premier Division club Waterford FC. This move marks the 24 year old midfielder’s first venture into football outside England following his release from Cheltenham Town at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Olayinka spent 14 years at Arsenal, joining the club as a seven-year-old. Despite his long tenure, he made just two first-team appearances, including a Europa League match against Standard Liege in 2019 and the Community Shield against Liverpool in 2020. He later contributed to Northampton Town’s promotion to League One during a loan spell in 2020.
The midfielder has made 59 career Football League appearances and scored three goals.
