Crawley Town, a newly promoted League One team, has officially announced the signing of Nigerian international Benjamin Tanimu from Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars. The transfer was completed for an estimated fee of $850,000 approximately N1.4 billion in Nigerian currency.
Singida Black Stars confirmed the deal on England’s transfer deadline day, including a 20% sell on clause, which means they will receive a portion of any future transfer fees if Tanimu is sold before the end of his contract. The 22 year old defender has signed a two year contract with Crawley Town, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
Tanimu, who began his career at Bendel Insurance, has represented Nigeria at the U23 level and made a surprise appearance for the Super Eagles during international friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March 2024. He made his senior debut against Ghana as a central defender and later showcased his versatility by playing as a right back in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
The Super Eagles defender is expected to begin training with his new teammates at Crawley Town in the coming weeks.
