Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has reflected on his side’s dramatic 5-3 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro, describing the Serie A champions as too strong on the night.
A Fast Start Undone
Udinese made a flying start, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes through James Abankwah and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Inter responded quickly, however, with Carlos Augusto and Niccolo Barella scoring within ten minutes of each other to level the contest, before Marcus Thuram put the hosts ahead for the first time just before the hour mark.
Inter Pull Away
The Serie A champions continued to press their advantage, adding two more through Francesco Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny to open up a commanding 5-2 lead. Idrissa Gueye pulled one back for Udinese in stoppage time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the match finished 5-3.
Okoye’s Verdict
Speaking to Udinese’s official website afterward, Okoye acknowledged how difficult it is to play Inter at the San Siro, noting their relentless attacking approach even after building a big lead. He said Udinese had chances of their own but ultimately came up against a side that was simply too strong.
Turning Attention To Cagliari
The defeat leaves Udinese on four points, with the club now shifting focus to their next Serie A fixture against Cagliari at the Bluenergy Stadium on Saturday.
