Venezia coach Davide Nicola has praised Nigerian striker Akor Adams after his second half goal gave the side a 1-0 win over Napoli in Serie A on Saturday. As reported by FootballInNigeria.com.ng, the result came at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo and was Nicola’s first game in charge.
It was also Venezia’s first win and first points of the season, ending a run of six straight league defeats. Napoli lost for the third time in seven games, adding pressure on coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Nicola, who replaced the sacked Stroppa, was careful about singling anyone out. “He helps the team,” he said of Adams, as quoted by Pazzi di Fanta.
How Adams Scored
Adams struck four minutes into the second half. A long ball from Simon Sohm put him through, and he shrugged off Amir Rrahmani before his finish deflected past goalkeeper Alex Meret.
He had threatened earlier in the match too, including a first-half chance after Benoît Badiashile made an error, which Meret saved at his near post. It was Adams’s second goal of the season in Serie A.

Napoli Fall Short
Napoli pressed for an equaliser and were awarded a penalty in the 68th minute. Kevin De Bruyne took it, but Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stanković saved.
The defeat comes after Napoli’s loss to Villarreal in the Champions League, and it leaves Allegri under growing scrutiny.

What Next For Venezia
Nicola added that Adams has incredible room for improvement and gives everything for the team.
Is one win enough to turn Venezia’s season? It’s too early to say, but a new coach, a clean sheet and a goal from their striker is the best possible start. Venezia were without several injured players, including Sverko, Franjic and Busio.

Venezia are next scheduled to face Genoa on October 25, with Adams hoping to score again. For a team that had lost six straight, belief is the first thing Nicola has restored.
